We're predicting that at the top of many women's Christmas wish lists this year will be the gorgeous Barbour Grace Polarquilt Jacket. Apologies if I've mentioned this before, but Barbour have enjoyed a huge surge in popularity over the last couple of years and when they produce stunning jackets like the Grace, it's not hard to see why. The Grace jacket has Barbour's signuature polarquilt combination and I think their quilted jackets are one of their most iconic designs, up there with their definitive waxed coats. This jacket is bang up to date with it's sophisticated styling; the belt gives it a very feminine look and it's the perfect flattering length. Warm, stylish and very versatile, I'm confident that Grace jackets are going to continue to fly off our shelves. Barbour's Liddesdale Quilt Jacket looks as though it's going to be one of the biggest hits of the Barbour menswear range and would make the perfect Christmas gift. Like the ladies Grace jacket, it's made from Barbour's signature quilt and has that instantly recognisable Barbour look that we're seeing more and more. Liddlesdale jackets are perfect for cooler weather and their elegant styling makes them a perfect choice for wearing out and about around town. We're currently stocking them in a range of colours; I've got my eye on one in Olive green - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Christmas!

I think most people would agree that nowadays wellies are acceptable footwear pretty much anywhere! Obviously I wouldn't recommend wearing them to a black tie do, however I see more and more people wearing them to go shopping in the supermarket or to pick the kids up from school. Wellies are, of course, pretty much obligatory for walking the dog! Why are wellies so popular? I think it's simply because they're practical: guaranteed to keep you warm in even the wettest conditions and with brands like Hunter producing wellies that have style, they've become the perfect wet weather footwear. But which Hunter wellies to choose? As Hunter have gained popularity they've introduced more and more styles into their range of wellies so it can be a little daunting trying to work out which to go for. Hunter Originals are wellie boot icons and recognised around the world; the definitive wellie, they'll keep you nice and dry but if the temperatures drop you could try Hunter's new Snow wellingtons. They have a neoprene lining and a sole that's been designed to give you lots of extra grip on icy surfaces. Or if you'd prefer an all-round robust boot that can cope with anything, Hunter Balmorals would be perfect. Within Hunter's Balmoral range there are a couple of different options; Hunter Balmoral Royals have a leather lining, there's a Balmoral boot with a neoprene lining whilst my personal favourite are the Hunter Balmoral Classics. Now is the perfect time to add the finishing touch to your winter weather wardrobe with a pair of Hunters; with all that choice on offer there's really no excuse....

No sign of any snow yet this winter; it's funny to think that this time last year we were battling against something of a mini ice-age! Anyway, when the weather does turn nasty I'll be reaching straight for my trusty Hunter Balmoral wellies. I've had them for a couple of years now and they've never let me down; their neoprene lining makes them really warm (much warmer than ordinary wellies) and those clever people at Hunter supply Balmoral wellies with two sets of in-soles - the 6mm thick pair are great for when things get really chilly!

Balmoral wellies also have a superior grip; their sole is more like the sole on a walking boot so I think they're ideal even for really tough walking. Interestingly Hunter have brought out a new range of snow boots for winter 2011/12, I guess as a response to the last couple of dreadful winters. These new boots look pretty similar to Hunter Originals but with a specially designed sole for improved grip on ice and snow and a thick neoprene lining to keep legs and feet warm.

With the festive season rapidly approaching, our thoughts are slowly turning to what I'd like for Christmas! We've been really impressed by the new Barbour autumn/winter 2011 collection and one coat in particular has caught our eye.

The Bardon jacket from Barbour's Men's Lifestyle Collection is an absolute classic; with that instantly recognisable Barbour 'look' it'd give a touch of understated elegance, whether out walking the dog (a bit of elegance always helps to lift the spirits when I'm out on the moor trudging along through the mud and mist!) or having a browse around the shops.

One thing we've really noticed over recent months is that Barbour quilted jackets are becoming incredibly popular; I think it's because they look so stylish but will keep you warm and dry. Barbour as a brand have undergone something of a renaissance over recent years and it's possible to spot their jackets pretty much anywhere these days.

They're working with some well-known designers, Alice Temperley for example, and have added some great modern twists (the new designs on some of their jacket linings are worth taking a look at) to some old favourites, helping to keep them on trend and very, very sought after.

It’s hard to believe that less than 3 weeks ago I was walking high in the beautiful Lake District in a Tee-shirt and shorts taking advantage of filling up my empty water bottle from various streams!...fast forward to today and there was a hard frost on the cars as I took the dog for his morning walk. A feeling not made better by a text from my son who is doing his ‘year 11 ‘work experience’ in Tenerife where, he tells me the temperature is 30 degrees! This is what we have come to expect in early Autumn living in the UK. This time of year is able to catch any of us out if were not careful in selecting the right clothes for what lies ahead.

All of us here at ‘ Team ‘Eric Spencer’ never cease to be amazed at how instant demand is as soon as the first really cold spell comes; sales of Sunspel pure cotton and thermal underwear take off, Barbour ladies and Men’s quilted jackets begin to ‘fly-out’ even faster than usual and the ever popular Dubarry Gore-Tex lined leather boots literally ‘walk out’. It’s graet to be able to stock these well respected brands. SUNSPEL have been quietly doing their own thing for years and years not changing their Q80 100% cotton underwear range needlessly to satisfy an unwarranted need for change, it works well and always has!. Be it singlets, briefs or shorts they are great at all times of year but the’ PV3’ thermal range is exceptional when it come to a pure need for warmth and comfort.

BARBOUR took on board some seasons ago, comments that the Ladies didn’t want to wear the same cut and shape as the men and gave most of the ladies quilted coats a superb, flattering feminine cut and shape whilst retaining the practicality of the need for a warmer garment. This is seen in styles such as the ‘Grace’ jacket and ‘Utility polarquilt’ jackets. DUBARRY GORE-TEX LINED LEATHER BOOTS have been a great success story for the past few years. Stylish and practical, they are seen in both town and country. Their flagship boot the ‘Galway’ offers the wearer comfort and flexibility in when it can be worn; dog walking, picking up the kids from school in the wet winter, mucking out the horses or just good honest fashion!.

What ever you are doing it will be done in style and with dry feet! Be prepared and plan ahead a little, call into the shop, give us ring or buy on-line. We are more than happy to have a chat and help you find the right purchase for you! Wrap up warm..see you soon!
